Review of “It’s Never Too Late to Date”

It’s Never Too Late to Date: Shirley and Howard’s Rx’s For Dating and Mating After 50 by Shirley Friedenthal and Howard Eisenberg

This is a good primer for women in their “golden years” (the author’s words) who haven’t dated in 30 or 40 years — or perhaps ever. If the readers are like my mother, they may have never really dated except their husband. So after a death or divorce, these women are often unhappily resigned to living a life alone even if they’d like a male companion, as they are petrified to date.

Although this self-published book lists two authors, there is frequent reference to “I” and it’s Shirley’s voice. The only time it’s clear Howard is in the book is when they tell the story of how they met. So I will refer to “author” not “authors.” Perhaps he added his perspective, but his voice isn’t present.

Shirley mixes inspiration with common sense topics like always dress as if you might meet someone special — even when doing errands or walking the dog. But I guess if one hasn’t had to worry much about one’s appearance in decades it’s a good reminder. She even lightly touches on sex.

You will like this book if you are over 60 (or if you’re a sheltered 50) or haven’t dated in 30 or 40 years. Shirley offers some down-to-earth advice on what to expect.

sounds interesting i will look for the book in print version i am old fashion when it comes to reading ( like to hold and feel the page) I am going to see if any mention is made to how she felt being alone for a while prior to actually meeting her partner.
