Playgirl centerfold returns

(Read about our first encounter)

A few days ago he returned from his global travels and was in my city for a few days. He remembered that my birthday is today so he decided to treat me to an early birthday celebration. He’s still handsome and buff at 61, but perhaps not as much as when he posed for Playgirl 30 years ago.

In addition to his good looks, he’s attentive, intelligent, humble and funny. I briefly thought of abandoning rationality and suggesting a romp in the hay. I’m pretty sure he would have been game. But then I remembered that trysts are like Chinese food — soon thereafter, I’m hungry for something more substantial.

We’ve been in contact monthly since our first encounter. But I still don’t feel I know him well.

He suggested we travel abroad together. I’ve been invited to accompany men to Paris, Rio and on cruises, but always declined because I didn’t know them well enough to share a room. But Mr. Playgirl strikes me as different. But then, I’ve misjudged seemingly good guys before, only to learn differently when I’ve gotten to know them better.

So I want to get to spend more time together before I agree to be a traveling partner, no matter how much I long for an international travel buddy. We already know we have similar travel styles and like to explore similar types of sights.

The internal debate is whether to seize the day and just go for it, or proceed cautiously and make sure I’m totally comfortable before buying a plane ticket. My adventurous self battles with my cautious self.

Have you had these type of internal battles when starting to spend time with someone? Have you leaped for adventure or stayed cautious? What happened? Would you do the same again? What did you learn from your choice?

I learned long ago that traveling with someone I didn’t know well could be a disaster. The first time, I realized on the first day that we didn’t get along, even though our few dates and phone calls had been fine. I vowed to never travel, even for a weekend, with someone I wasn’t already intimate with and knew well. Silly me, I did it again, going away for a weekend with another guy I enjoyed dating a few times but again had not been intimate with and the trip was miserable. Think about it, getting stuck far from home with someone who offends or has intolerable habits or is just lousy in bed. Yow.

I’ve never experienced traveling with a guy like is being suggested. Then again, Playgirl types aren’t likely into someone like me or me into them–even if there were any in my area.

Your gut is telling you that it would not be wise to go globe-trotting with Mr. Centerfold. If you want to be a fling and are fine w/that, then have at it. Otherwise, I think it’s signing up for heartache (not to mention the expenses involved financially). I’d listen to my gut if I were you.

How about a short weekend away together? One night perhaps, that way if you two don’t get on in that space of time, you will know if an international trip might be a disaster. Plus you can test out the goods, LOL bring that same staple remover with you 🙂

If you are seriously interested, but do not want to go so quickly…

Why not meet him somewhere a little later, then ensure you have separate living arrangements – even just different bedrooms or perhaps nearby villas, can be wonderful to get to know each other and build trust.

Although I do think you are eating the wrong Chinese food…. I definitely agree with the fast food analogy – if you really like him or even just think you might and just want to find out – make him like you by not rushing … the above has been known to work!

Carpe Diem somehow recently translated into having sex straight away – I for one do not agree with that translation. Siezing the day is savouring the moment (not fast food which makes you feel queasy very soon after).

Go for full flavour in food, wine and all life has to offer!

Anna: “Test out the goods” and “bring the staple remover” — very funny!

Cathy J: Yes, full flavor food is so much more satisfying!
