A lot of great women can't take a compliment because they've already come to a negative conclusion about something that a partner sees as a positive. Most of these are physical attributes that are not celebrated in the images we see in the media but that most adult men I know consider positive (yes, the larger thighs or the curves the fashion waifs will never have).
