You were the soul of patience; I don't believe I would have lasted that long. I'm very direct and would probably have said something like, "I appreciate your accompanying me to dinner, but I really do have to go," left money for my share of the meal (to assuage any residual guilt I might feel), gathered up my stuff and prepared to leave. A monologue is not a conversation!

I love the bathroom line. I have to tell my female friends that one. Always do the coffee date. Everything is paid up front so you can just go.

Usually I will say I have an appointment. If they want the truth I'll be happy to give it to them, but most people can't handle the truth. I haven't played a Lemon Law card yet from my blog.

I call these guys "monologists." When I listen to them and find myself checking out (or starting to fall sideways off the chair) I know I have to go. I will usually make some attempt to say something about myself and, when they just bring the conversation back to themselves, I know it's over for me. I've been known to say something like "thanks for lunch (or the drink or whatever) and saying "gotta go." I don't feel I need to explain myself or say something about their apparent inability to have a two-way conversation because this is not the kind of guy who will "get it." It's so obvious that this is not a guy for me that I just end it politely and leave. At that point, I don't want to prolong it for them to finish or make excuses for themselves or anything, I just know I have to leave. Polite, but no excuses, that's my way.

Ah, dating. Lots of frogs but somewhere a prince!

I'm sorry I may have forgotten to mention but I have an important appointment to get to. I am running rather late now, would you like to get the remainder of your lunch wrapped up or shall I say good bye now?
